Amazing Kakheti region tour
Kakheti is a historical province in eastern Georgia. Kakheti, and especially the Alazani valley, is the biggest wine region of Georgia and is consider the cradle of wine. The legend states that from here the wine spread all over the world. And indeed, the main attraction of that region, besides the old churches and monasteries, are the hundreds of small and large, modern and ancient wineries, partly still run family owned.
After breakfast at hotel we will depart towards the Kakheti region of Georgia, Motherland of Georgian winemaking. Our first stop will be in Bodbe Monastery, which according to the legend is a burial place of St. Nino, who was adopted Christianity in Georgia in the 4th century. According to the legend, St.Nino, 60, died in Bodbe in 335. She crossed the entire country healing and preaching people the true God. St. Nino bequeathed to bury her in this land. Then we will visit Sighnaghi (the City of Love). Sighnaghi is a small town in the east of Georgia situated on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. It is the only city in Georgia that has fully preserved the fortress walls that are crowned with watchtowers, where travelers can climb to get the magnificent view of the Alazan valley. After having lunch in Vakirelebi we will move to Tsinandali, the residence of dukes of Georgia with beautiful English garden, a museum, and the wine cellar which belonged to prince Chavchavadze, 19th century public figure and poet. Then will reach Telavi, the administrative and historic center of the region. Have a short walk through charming streets of old Telavi and have a photo-stop at the monument to Erekli II. Depart to Tbilisi by beautiful road through Gombori pass. Drop off at your hotel.
